About EST
EST seeks to embody and implement the most sophisticated, up-to-date assessment with a suite of assessments that includes EST I and EST II.EST I includes three mandatory sections: Reading, Writing and Language, and Mathematics.EST I tackles communication skills, comprehension, critical and logical reasoning; all these are basic requirements for a university student. The EST I also includes an optional essay section measuring students' language writing skills.The EST II is a subject-based test in Science and Math. The EST subject tests cover Math, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, with each subject test taken separately.The EST II measures basic scientific knowledge, scientific reasoning, and higher-order thinking skills, proving the abilities and capabilities of the student to pursue education in specific majors related to engineering, science and health care. The choice of subject tests depends on the majors the students are applying for.
What is EST I?
EST I is a general test that measures your skills in writing, reading, and math. It has four sections: Writing (Grammar) - 44 questions - 35 minutes Evidence Based Reading - 52 questions - 65 minutes Math - No Calculator - 20 questions - 25 minutes Math - Calculator - 38 questions - 55 minutes The total score for EST I is 1600, with 800 points for writing and reading, and 800 points for math. The test is about 3 hours long, with short breaks between each section.
What is EST II?
EST Il is a subject test that measures your knowledge in specific areas. You can choose from three science subjects and one math subject: Biology Physics Chemistry Math Level II You can take up to three subjects in one test session. Each subject test has 50 questions and lasts for one hour. The total score for each subject test is 800.
Who needs to take the EST exam?
If you are an Egyptian student from the American Diploma system who wants to apply to any public or private university in Egypt (except the American University in Cairo), you need to take both EST I and EST II. If you are an international student who lives outside Egypt, you can take the ACT or SAT instead of the EST exam.
When and how can I take the EST exam?
The EST exam is offered about five times per year, usually in January, March, May, July, and October. The schedule is announced at the end of each year for the next year. You can register for the EST exam online through the official website of the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE). You will need to pay a fee and upload some documents to complete your registration.
